I’ve captioned the photos. I hope your expectations aren’t too high.
After parking the car, I was anxious for a minute to myself, so I left my stuff in the car while the others found the hostel. I set off on a quick tour of the city at sunset. San Sebastian is absolutely beautiful. A wide river flanked by tree-lined boulevards divides it down the middle. On one side, there is a mostly-residential cape with a sea-shell shaped beach and an island out on the horizon; on the other, older side of town, another beach with beautiful architecture and a very busy nightlife. Bikers rocket by on a large network of paths, large paseos are full of people, and everything is gorgeous. Maybe a bit too touristy, but I didn’t mind much.
After the sun set, I grabbed my stuff and made way to the hostel. Our friend Miles was spending the weekend in País Vasco, and I gave him phone directions to the hostel to meet up with us. Everyone united and ready for a night out, we started off with dinner at a Chinese Restaurant. We ordered the menú, which included far too much average-quality food. Afterwards, the group split up a bit; Seran and Sue to explore, Kelly to sleep, and Sam, Miles and I to… (gasp) drink. After a few hours of barhopping, complete with plenty of vodka consumption, I called it a night.
The next morning involved a lot of rain. A few of us got breakfast at a cafe, then we all split up for some exploring before the return to Madrid. I walked around the city some more, then bought Newsweek and read it cover to cover at a coffeeshop waiting for the rain to die down. It didn’t. After a little more walking around, we reunited at the car and went to the airport. Which was actually more like a bus terminal, with maybe 15 flights a day. My flight was first (everyone else bought their tickets later and found a better deal on a different airline), and a short 50 minutes later the plane touched down in Madrid. After the (50th) criminally long trek back to Toledo, I wrote an essay, did my homework, and went to bed.
Last week (the last week of classes) went by quickly, as they all have, and so has this weekend. This week, I have two review classes on Monday, two exams Tuesday, and two exams Wednesday. That’s it. A mere week from today, I will have said goodbye to the Fundación and my family, and I’ll be alone in Lisbon counting down my last two days in Europe, another quarter closer to the end of college. God, it’s (all) going (so) fast.
