Four-plus-one

Today, Danny and I were up early to seek an apartment to replace the5509. We arrived at Chicago Apartment Finders around noon, and were off. They pair you with an “unpaid” (ie commissioned) helper; Michael asked us questions about locations, parking needs, pets, etc., then took twenty or so minutes to call around and arrange appointments. The three of us piled into his Scion, and we scoured the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area. I’m kind of disappointed we got it narrowed down to those areas without checking out Wicker Park/Bucktown/Ukrainian Village, but we got to see a LOT of places (mostly “four-plus-ones,” which Wikipedia defines as “an apartment building that has four floors of apartments on top of parking. It was particularly popular in Chicago during the 1960s and 1970s, especially on the city’s north side”). Our favorite was this one. Not the most attractive building, perhaps, but you can’t be too picky when you’re stuck to a budget.

Should be exciting. It was under renovations a little on the inside, so I don’t have any nice pictures of it; picture white walls, white appliances, and grey carpet. It’s on the fifth/top floor, facing east (I think?) over the building next to it. Although there is no view of the lake, there are nice trees and plenty of other tall buildings.

First day we can take occupancy: 22 May 15 May.
