Swimming Alone in the Intern Pool

First and foremost, a very happy first birthday to somatablet.com. Happy birthday to my mom and brother, too, while I’m at it. Even though they don’t read this, as far as I know. Okay.

At my job, I sit in a group of eight desks, of which four are usually occupied by interns. The rest are usually deserted, except for one that has a software program that the women in HR need to use once in a while. Since noon, I’ve been the only intern here. It’s kind of lonely, and exceedingly strange.

I don’t have much of anything to do today. I created some guides this morning for the reports I created and run weekly. When I showed my boss, his first response was “are you leaving any time soon? Because you should tell me if you are.” No, I assured him. “Oh, then thanks.” No problem. (It kept me entertained this morning since you haven’t given me anything to do in days.)

This weekend went quickly. Friday night was spent in; Saturday morning, two of my cousins (and two of their friends) were in town to see Wicked, so I met them for lunch at PF Chang’s. Oy. Younger people.

They got to lunch a bit later than expected, so I stopped by Border’s to pick up Harry Potter. Danny and I have been sharing it while he waits for his to arrive in the mail. Can’t wait for the bus ride home to read some more.

Last night, I went to Friar Tuck’s with a large group of people from Northwestern. It was the most fun I’ve had out at a bar in ages–the owners of the bar were doling out free shots to us (they must not see large groups of college students there on Sunday nights very often), and even broke out their collection of funny hats for us that they usually reserve for Fridays. They also have a brand new game of electronic corn hole that, according to the owner, is one of only 10 in existence. She lamented the fact that she paid a ton for it, but justified it as “her favorite game.” It was pretty fun. It also lets you pause the game immediately after you “toss” the beanbag and place bets on the outcome.

I’m afraid no description of the night can do it justice, but Friar Tuck’s is my new favorite dive.
