Beginning Again

Leah and I were talking the other week about how an urgency to change always seems to coincide with the autumn dip in temperatures. In that spirit, I’ve been working very hard the last two days to freshen up somatablet.com in time for the change coming in my life–my last year of school for quite a while. More about that in the week to come (classes start tomorrow).

I realize that I haven’t posted in nearly a month. I’m going to take a few seconds to summarize the waning days of my summer.

I finished with my job at Morningstar on the last day of August. After a few days relaxing, I drove around the midwest and northeast in a three-pointed star; first from Chicago to Cleveland, then Cleveland to New York (and back), then Cleveland to Ohio University (and back), and finally a return trip to Chicago. My time in Cleveland was relatively short, but it was good to see friends and family. I went to Ithaca with my mom to visit my grandparents and some extended family for a few days. I literally did nothing in the time I was there but eat, read, talk, and sleep. Literally minutes after arriving back in Cleveland, I got in my car and dropped down to OU to party it up for a night with Kate and friends.

I’ve been pleasantly relaxing with Danny and the cats for about the last two weeks in Chicago. Danny is now off to Jersey then Italy, so it’s just me for the next couple of weeks.

So, version 2.0. Please please please leave comments! As with every new design I make, I’m sure it will go through some small incremental changes over the coming months as I see things that need to be tweaked. On the whole, though, I like the design. Clearly it’s not dramatically different, but the monotone design elements that have been in place for the last year were starting to bore me. I think this looks more mature, and I like the fall-ish color scheme. The page is about 150 pixels wider now, and most of the text is slightly larger. I created a section where you can view just the links, stripped out from the weblog entries. The slideshow at the top is closer in dimension to a real photograph, so that I can present more than just a narrow sliver of the pictures; I hope to take some more shots this fall and winter to fill it up. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m off to do grocery shopping now; my baser needs have fallen by the wayside as my computer consumed my attention. Then, up early tomorrow to slog through four classes that I might or might not want to take. I’ll let you know how they go.
